Ganbare Goemon:

The Series where it all began, created by Konami in 1986, Goemon featured in a vast amount of games. His first title was "Mr.Goemon" for the Arcade system, back then Goemon looked alot different than he does today, he resembled more as an ancient Japanese art piece, but bare in mind he was based on a real person!

(Ishikawa Goemon)

Soon after Goemon arrived at the Arcade, a Famicom version was made around the same time but the gameplay was slightly different. From then on Goemon started to become very popular and more Famicom games were made, also introducing Ebisumaru & 2 Player functionality. Over the years of next generation consoles, Goemon made his appearance on a number of occasions, adding Sasuke & Yae to the team, also evolving from 2D to 3D.

Around the late 90's, Goemon was at his peak of popularity when the N64 games were released, the games after that did ok, but Goemon's reign of popularity soon died down in Japan, Konami attempted to try and get him back up by creating the other 2 series, but none really lived up to expectations.

Then on the release of the Nintendo DS, Konami unveiled a new Goemon DS game & this time, they've gone back to everyone's favourite 1st series and then the game was released in Japan 23rd June 2005, The game was rumored to be released worldwide aswell as the Bouken Jidai Katsugeki game, but Konami felt the game was too Japanese orientated that the rest of the world wouldn't understand it, so like many of the other Goemon games this one never saw the world outside Japan...

Although Goemon may not be as active as he has been in the past, Konami do suprise people, by releasing a new game particularry for console launch titles, let's hope that Goemon will continue to live on for many years to come!
